Welcome to TPops!
For more than five years the Tehachapi Pops Orchestra has been a gathering of musicians of all levels. We play ‘pop’ music and light classics for several occasions in Tehachapi and the surrounding area. If you would like to perform with us, you will be playing several concerts in the summer, including July 4th and a Concert in the Park. You’ll also play Halloween in the ‘Bookay’ Theater, and at Christmas. You’ll have fun!
Who We Are
Our rehearsals are Monday nights at the Grace Fellowship Church, located at 326 East Tehachapi Boulevard. Show up 6:15; rehearsal starts at 6:30 and goes to 8:30. Anyone can point you to someone who will officially welcome you, take your name and contact information, and help you get settled by showing you where to sit and by introducing you to other players. We prepare for concerts and occasions year around, except for mid-December through January, when we take well deserved time off. We have no auditions; however, you should have a minimum of high beginning or intermediate skills on your instrument.
As of the beginning of 2013, our conductor is Daniel Musquez, of Bakersfield. We are run by a Board of Directors, all of whom play in our orchestra. We welcome participation on the Board by anyone who is interested and wants to help.
Please plan on coming to our Monday rehearsals. They are fun and help us prepare for our performances. The more people who come to rehearsals, the more we accomplish and the more fun we all have. We are a learning orchestra, so rehearsals are important.
You will need a sturdy black music stand and a music light for concerts. Our dress for concerts consists of dark pants and a TPops or similar bright colored T shirt.
We are a non-profit organization, supporting ourselves with donations from corporate and private donations, from fund raisers, and by passing the hat at each rehearsal. In addition, we ask our players to donate $20 per person once a year.
